We felt COMPELLED to make public what is contained within as, lady is unable to defend herself following a major road traffic accident resulting in many surgeries/disabilities.

REPORT

We have been informed that JHMJ Builders Ltd of Burton Upon Trent. Staffordshire are closing permanently.

James Hickinbottom - Owner - Director of JHMJ Builders, email of Tuesday March 2nd 2021 reads:-

"Good morning 

After talking with my accountant and third-party as of this morning we are taking steps to close down jhmj as of financial loss accrued over your contract."

Mr Hinkinbottoms' complaint in the email is mute, as he is reported to have left the worksite over ONE year ago, and this is his latest excuse.

He was contracted with a Trust, beneficiary being an elderly disabled person. Because beneficiary needed involvement, she mostly communicated with Hickinbottom. 

He was contracted October 2019, to work on a three story building. Bid £87,000 incl tax. to be paid in four monthly payments. Hickinbottom received all four checks.

Job details - convert one unit into three separate units. Remove inside staircase, install outside staircase, New Electrics/plumbing kitchens/bathrooms/double glazing/internal doors/fireproof  shop ceiling.....

Ground floor: Large Retail area

1st floor: 2 bed, 2 bath flat

2nd floor: 1 bed flat with large roof garden.

It was discovered mid October 2019, steel support were needed. Within five weeks Engineers report/steel framework installed.

Trustee were unaware of Cost paid by beneficiary - £17,670.00 incl Tax, Hickinbottom did not invoice  nor provide bid/estimate to Trustees.

As of March 2020 Hinkinbottom had been paid total of £102,00.00.

JHMJ provided additional estimate for new roof December 2019                                              

     

TIMELINE

Jan 2020: Beneficiaries nephew passes away after falling off a bridge onto the A38

May 1st 2020: Due to covid lock-down, beneficiaries Mother is isolated in a nursing home. Due to loneliness/confusion, she refused her Dialysis treatment and passes away.

March 2020 to June: beneficiary practically begged Hickinbottom to return to site, he replied with one excuse after another:- "i have man off work." "We are in 21 day quarantine." "iM waiting for engineers report."

June 29th 2020: Beneficiary obtains report from Engineer, Engineers states he sent all to builder on February 2020. Hickinbottom refuses to return to work till  September 2020;

September 2020: Hickinbottom cancelled due to other work commitments, and the other site flooding due to heavy rain. AND he needs another Engineers report???

October 2020: Beneficiary contacts Hickinbottom to make sure he is prepared to start 1st November, no more delays!! Says he has a death in the family, and needs to get steel estimates, Beneficiary was very understanding, informed not to worry.

November 2020: Did not return to site as confirmed, says hes waiting for steel estimate. Beneficiary very understanding, replied OK.

December 2020: Did not return to work as confirmed, still waiting for steel estimate. Beneficiary very understanding, suggested Hickinbottom enjoy his time off, and return to work after New year. He confirms.

January 2021: All calls/text/email to Hickinbottom from Beneficiary unanswered/ignored.

(THIS IS THE THANK YOU, THIS DUDE replied with to our Founders kindness/compassion/understanding with! he IGNORES HER!! DISGUSTING!

February 14th 2020:- Trustees email JHMJ, Hickinbottom continues with excuses, contradicting his prior statements to the beneficiary.

In reply to your email I need to submit a quotation  for roof work that needs to be carried out before project can move forward as the whole roof needs to be removed I informed  Ms ====== that work would recommence in November but due to weather this is not appropriate at the moment  

I attach quotation

As for time scale as soon as I get the go ahead on roof I would have to book sub-contractors again so would have to get back to you on date .

After zero  communication with beneficiary from Nov to Feb, three and half months AWOL, and this pathetic excuse by a contractor of 30 years!

We will provide copies of all emails to verify each statement we have made herein, so Hickinbottom can make up all the excuses he likes, facts will speak for themselves here and in court of law!

Hickinbottom has left the building in terrible state:

No stairs, access to floors 1/2. 

Shop: side corridor, with WC has no roof, new wc etc needed. No internal doors so rain pouring into corridor then shop. Missing new internal doors. New DG windows doors/wundows. Boiler for CH.

1st floor: 2 bedrooms complete. Kitchen, 1 bathroom incomplete. Living room 16x16- no roof, can see main roof, laminate fooring, plaster, paint, 2 new dg windows missing.

2nd floor: needs floors. Bathroom. Kitchen. Central heat. All electrics plumbing, plastering. Internal doors. Install railings around roof garden. DG windows doors.

Roof: Hickinbottom removed chimney - did not rebuild  - large hole in main roof with rain water pouring in for ONE YEAR.

Additional new work: New roof/timber to be sub contracted out.

There are trail of communication from Beneficiary to Hickinbottom complaining about conditions property left and that works are essential  - YET NOTHING from Hickinbottom!!

If you are contracted with JHMJ or about to, please be cautious as this person is not trustworthy.
